Goals
Now is the time for professionals and practitioners across sectors — from parenting, education, and research, to children’s media, healthcare, technology, philanthropy, and more — to come together to build a robust, collaborative field of children’s racial learning and carry this work forward.
Building the Field of Children’s Racial Learning
Decades of work in social science research, early childhood education, and more have created a strong foundation of knowledge and practice upon which to build a large-scale movement to support healthy learning about race and racism among children and youth. The 2025 National Convening on Children’s Racial Learning will accelerate this field-building, bringing together leaders across sectors to advance the goals envisioned by the Event Steering Committee:
Growing sense of community
- Increasing sense of connection and values alignment
- Shared vocabulary around healthy racial learning
- Shared agenda for supportive practice and policy
Working partnerships and connective infrastructure
- Increasing collaboration across sectors
- Established infrastructure to support communication and dissemination of information, resources, and programs
Enhanced public awareness and practice
- Increasing public awareness of the early roots of racial attitudes
- More caregivers and professionals integrating teaching and learning about race and racism into their practice
Expanded funding
- Increasing awareness and prioritization of children's racial learning among funders
- Increasing long-term funding opportunities for cross-sector partnerships and research-practice integration
